802 - Searching for the Truth: The Quest for Information Search Success
This project was my first step working with someone; helping them find what they needed. I learned so much about interview techniques and understanding the many different ways that people learn and take in information. It is important to understand that everyone we encounter will have different information needs and expectations. We, as information professionals, need to be able to successfully:
- diagnose a person's information needs;
- prescribe them the searching tools to help them in their search;
- and, treat them to any and all help they need in order to be successful.
855 - Collection Development Project
This was my first major effort with collection development and I learned so much about evaluating, selecting, and aquiring new materials for a library. Much of the project was about a fake community, but the analysis of the community, the creation of a budget, and discovering selection tools were all very real experiences for me. I discovered how much effort it takes to understand and anticipate your patron's needs. This project helped me to understand how many aspects there are to the simple title of collection development.
