It has been my dream to become a librarian every since I was a little girl. The library was always a magical place to be and I never wanted to leave. Being a student at Emporia State University in the School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) program has been a truly challenging and rewarding experience. Working towards my Masters of Library Science degree has changed my life and given my dreams a more tangible reality.
This portfolio will reflect the MLS SLIM program outcomes and professional values and will include reflections on the artifacts of the coursework studied. My focus is to work in public libraries with people of all ages and backgrounds. I enjoy working with people and the challenge of meeting the multitude of needs that comes with the public library atmosphere. The classes I have taken at SLIM have mainly been with the public library in mind. After working in a library for the last three years, many of the tools and theories that I have learned from SLIM have become realized and functional. They help me see the larger picture already and will continue to make me into a well-rounded, future-thinking librarian of tomorrow.
